AutoProtect REVIEW of 2016
As 2016 draws to a close AutoProtect has revisited some of the biggest motoring news stories of the year and brings you up to date.www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3458656/Calm-dear-Driving-angry-dangerous-using-phone-makes-10-times-likely-crash.html
Update:
Driving and our activity behind the wheel was bought into focus by the Prime Minister later in the year. Following some shocking, high profile court cases of drivers causing deaths whilst using their phones, she commented;
“The sentence should fit the crime for those who kill or seriously injure on our roads and it should deter other drivers from causing needless harm just for the sake of taking a call or sending a text.”
The Department of Transport has already introduced some new penalties due to start across the UK in the early part of 2017.
The option of a ‘phone awareness’ course will no longer be available as an alternative to points.
Texting or making calls without a hands-free kit or using social media will incur a £200 fine and six penalty points on your licence.
Second offenders could bring a fine of up to £1000 and a six month ban.
The complaint has always been that offenders have always been difficult for the police to catch. But perhaps not for long as a US tech company Movidius, in partnership with Chinese surveillance camera company Hikvision, has developed a new camera that uses cutting-edge technology to analyse video footage and look for anomalies in the expected, e.g. mobile phones in the car and provide LIVE footage.
